I read through most of the replies but hadn't seen anyone else mention the motor mounts and/or motor shocks. My car had a strange clucking sound along with a wild idle and I discovered that the mini-shocks were completely shot. I haven't replaced them yet, but I clamped them temporarily to determine if that was a source of contention, and it was a valid one. Good luck.
