Subject: Bluetooth problem, advice requested

I do not get a reliable connection between the ULF and my cell phone. Usually, upon entering the car and turning on the ignition the ULF and phone will recognize one another. I can dial a number using the contact list or with voice commands. The call will proceed and sometimes the I can complete one or more calls but mostly the call will disconnect sometimes during the initial dial. The phone will display a message of “Device out of range or power off”. Attempts to reconnect will be unsuccessful. Although given enough separation (several hours) the whole process can be re-started.

Does anyone else have had a similar experience that they have been able to correct and if so, how?

More details are given below

I have tried moving the Bluetooth antenna from inside the trunk, to the rear deck, to laying on the back seat with no improvement. Moving the phone closer to the antenna (within 1 ft) does not seem to have any affect.

I have tried clearing the pairing and then re-pairing of the phone without any noticeable improvement.

I installed a ULF brought through ebay and an adapter kit from Derek (e46fanatics member BMW740iL, he is also on this board). Derek has been very helpful but we are running out of ideas.

My car is a 2000 323 (build date of June 99) that the previous owner had a factory Motorola analog phone installed and since removed by me.

The car has a Business/CD radio

The cell phone is LG VX8350 firmware version 01, Bluetooth version Q308.05.01

I am using a 7th generation ULF

1. Both Phone and ULF report successful pairing
2. Contact list successfully transferred to ULF
3. R/T toggles normally
4. Can activate the voice recognition and dial a number
