Subject: Been A While - 2003 Black Z4 Roadster given GlossHaus Treatment
Author: GlossHaus : 163 posts

I had a client bring over his Black Z4 Roadster to look at and from 20 feet it looked as if it needed a good washing and wax job. Maybe a little glazing and all would be great, right? What's not to like about this paint?

After some poking around with a paint thickness gauge, looking under the hood, and visually inspecting the depth and clarity of the paint, I was able to quickly determine that the front of the car (hood, and fenders) had been repainted at one time and most of the horizontal surfaces were spider-webbed as in the pic below. The vertical surfaces, while not as bad as horizontal, were not in great shape either.

And both the Headlights were pretty badly oxidized and etched.

I went after the headlights 1st and used GlossHaus (GH) Foundation II (F2 = medium), followed by GH Foundation III (F3). I used the Porter Cable on a setting of 4.5 for F2 and an orange pad. With the F3, I also used an orange pad with the speed set at 4. They came clear, however some of the etching was still noticeable. But the clarity and brightness of headlights was markedly brighter.

Next I tackled the hood. As always I taped up a 2X2 section to serve as my test patch to establish my whole-car regimen. I again used F2, but with a yellow (most abrasive) pad and then followed with an orange pad with F2 and then F3 with an orange pad. This regimen worked well for the hood and trunk. I ratcheted down for the sides of the car, i.e. orange pad and F2, then followed with F3 and an orange pad. The whole car was glazed with GH Glaze and then rolled out for pics. Notice I didn't say anything about WAX. Only the last two pics at the bottom of this post are of the car waxed with GH Perfect Carnauba (client's preference). All other pics are BEFORE wax. After the GH treatment, the shine, optical clarity and depth of gloss were already there. The wax is just a clear seal to keep the shine, which comes from the refinished paint, protected. I really liked the play of light on the flame styling.

This next pic is of the hood after the first two F2 treatments. The repaint was not bad, but the prep work was not of the best quality. There were still blemishes under the clear coat. These can be seen around the lights in the picture below. However, the improvement in clarity was still pretty good.

Sorry about the plethora of pics, but I just couldn't make up my mind as to which of the group to post, so you guys got'em all. Hope you enjoy!

And the last two pics of the car waxed and waiting for the client - who was ecstatic!
