easy one this one the drive shaft splits in two via a 18?mm bolt just in front of the centre bearing the front shaft can be shortened or indeed lengthened assuming you have a 4hp24 trans although with an adapter plate why not try to run your 5hp30 from the 540? or if you go the simple way with the 4hp24 to make it easier you may want the engine bay wiring loom from memory they split the main loom ain the inside of the cabin behind the dashboard on the drivers(right side of the car i think the 750 loom will plug into the e34 loom at this point this will give you the plugs etc to run the two dmes and the eml control unit i hope you have the throttle potentiometer from the accelerator pedal!
getting back to the driveshaft you may require the 750 driveshaft as from memory the 750 has a different spline etc on the front of the driveshaft this will also help if you keep the 4hp24 as i believe you will be lengthening the driveshaft as the 4hp24 is quite a bit shorter than the 5hp30
