Just had this problem myself and came to this board looking for help. I am now AUD $1,900 worse off having had to have the general module and relays replaced. Not sure where you are but (the general module) US price is about USD450 and refurbed is about $225. I decided to stick with a BMW Australia supplied part as it has to be reprogrammed for your car, so you are in for a trip to the BMW surgery where they will surgically remove the contents of your wallet! I had my local garage/workshop do the work at a lower labour rate but they took it to the BMW dealer who supplied the module for the recode AT NO CHARGE (I should think so too at that price). Just about to write to the MD of BMW Australia copy to the competition commission over this blatant price gouging.

Short answer is that it is probably the general module if you have checked the fuses and relays. If it was the motor I would have expected the fuse to go first. BTW I opened up the module and I reckon that these things can be repaired if you had the right diagnostic tools.
