The boot is a messy job but easy. The diff swap is straight forward but you need to make sure you get the opening in the axles clean before inserting the removal tool so it does not slip out or you will be using vise-grips to help unscrew it or cutting it off.

A used diff is avail for under $300. What kind do you have, big or medium? Drain plug on big diff is on the side. Med diff has drain on the back cover below the fill.
