Thanks for the clarification...so this should be ok on a 540i? I've seen some of the writeups on how to do the struts, and it seems like it would save some time to do it this way. I've never done struts before and I'm trying to decide if I should take it on alone. (I don't have any friends who work on their own cars) I'm a little nervous about making sure I do the spring compressors correctly...I have a lot of respect for all that stored up energy...I'm not afraid to screw up (lord knows I've got enough experience in that department), but I don't want to be unsafe. Here's what I've done on my 540 so far(all for the first time on any car...thanks to this forum):

Radiator
Valve cover gaskets/ spark plugs
water pump/thermostat & housing
fan blades (dropped the darned thing when I was doing the water pump)
lower control arms
swaybar end links
center(drag) link
front pads and rotors (rears next on the agenda)
rear door lock actuator
drivers door cable (from the handle to the latch...mine broke)
"custom" intake (pep boys fittings/filter...4" tube...seat o the pants dyno says a slight improvement, but maybe it just sounds faster)

1995 540i 6spd
