but what happens then to the armature and brushes? Brushes are not available, but that should not be a problem to make some of similar shape fitting. Actually I found a shop in Germany which supplies any kind of brushes we want, even pre-war brushes for oldtimers. But the armature is the problem I am afraid. More wear, more pressure , and when the armature is damaged beyod repair, that will be a problem. So better leave the springs as they are and clean every few years. Actually yours worked 20 years now, so check again in 20 years ;-)

brushes for wiper motors, fan motors, blower fan motors etc., see the pics in the link. If they do not have it, they will make it for you.
