Subject: Buttons on Nav Screen

Hi All

I have been been thinking about doing a nav retro fit in my e39 but I realized its quite a task, so now I'm trying to explore other ideas,
I was thinking about hooking up a pc to the OEM screen and probably running something like carX on the PC. The question I have though is this,
are the buttons, knobs on the side of the OEM 16:9 screen dependent on the cd changer, radio module, GPS computer or can it still function
independently of these components? I plan to to use the ibus interface so I can still use those buttons to navigate PC(carX).

If anybody knows were the control unit for these buttons sit please let me know.

Thanks again for all your help.
