On second thought, I don't need Newton. I think everyone who drives knows that speed = distance/time.
Actually, it's just common sense. While you’re driving today, try to go 25. And while you’re driving 25, try to picture how in the world you could possibly ever manage to hit someone towards the rear half of their car as they crossed an intersection. You'll see my point. Do a google search on “order of magnitude calculations”. Some times, things have such a wide margin of obviousness, that you can grossly exaggerate the numbers to values that are irrefutably within reason and still come up with undeniable results.
(My original question was only about the amount of time from the accident to the time you have to file btw. :)
Also, in the case of my mom, I was wrong, she didn’t get a ticket. But she got taken to small claims court, and someone said she was going too fast. So while the other person had a stop sign, she was found partially at fault for contributing to the accident. If I did get a lawyer, I'd get one that work on contingincy. :)
