Miles accumulate for the passenger. You might be able to get credit for his flight if your names are similar. He must present "his" number when checking in for the flight. Or even better it can be simply attached to the reservation.

Same with hotels.

The worst that will happen is, they will not credit your mileages for the travel/stay. My name is different on all of my traveler program memberships and I Have never had a problem.

I like Marriott's hotel program for best reward value. They got me a Rebel XT, and some other nice things.
