Subject: 97 528i Steering Wheel Radio control question ?

Ok ...I thought I was pretty slick when I made this change, but I have been humbled. Here is my story...

I ordered the radio control (left side) on the steering wheel of my 528i it controls the radio station presets/CD changing/volume control. My objective was to replace the owrn buttons on the control.

Once I got the control being a technology profession I assumed that by adding a new peripheral to the radio control unit it might reject it...so I took apart the old switch separating the circuit board/switch from the worn plastic buttons and attached the NEW plastic buttons to the old cicuit board !!!

BRILLIANT of me I thought !!!

Everything worked wonderfully...until I started my car this AM after it sitting all night...when I started my car this AM ...the radio was ON but there was NO DISPLAY on the radio unit...and the controls, either on the steering column or radio itself DID NOT work. After driving for about 10 minutes everything returned to normal and all worked fine...

The other thing I noticed was that the turn signal indicators in the interior on the dash did not work for about 10 mintues, but everything else DID !!

Has anybody had a similar issue ??? My thinking is that I need to have the dealer reset the control unit in some way...a reboot thing ?

The thing that mystifies me is that I DID NOT change anything but the plastic buttons themselves...and removing the original switch and reinstalling it with NEW plastic buttons...??

STRANGE or WHAT ???
