pick a busy station and use brand name gas like Chevron, Union 76 or Shell. With the price of gas a lot of people are shying away from the price of premium 91 or better octane. I'm running 89 octane for now just because I don't want to pump from a tank where the 91 has been sitting for longer periods (moisture build-up and storage tank rust). I filled up at an Arco just up the street cuz I was running low and needed to get to work asap. Unfortunately, about 3-4 weeks ago I filled up with their premium and after a few miles, I thought I had burned a couple of valves. Turns out it was old crappy gas. All is fine now with a fresh refill of Chevron. And this Arco is a very busy station due to the prices...but again, the people are only buying 87 octane.
