I would not be afraid to drive the car - but it is wise to do proper maintenance of the system.

- Make sure the coolant level is correct (measure only when cold) and then check that it remains steady. If there is any ongoing gradual loss then there will be some leak so have it pressure tested.

- I think your car does NOT have a sensor for the coolant level - so periodic manual checking is important.

- coolant should be replaced every 2 years.

- usually by now the thermostate and water pump should have been replaced.

- some weak areas are the rad outlets (under the hose) and the expansion tank. If either of these go you can have a gradual, or more likely a very fast loss of coolant. If you suspect the later (steam from the front) or if you ever see the temp gauge go to hot then stop the car as quickly as possible and have it towed to a service.
