Subject: Subwoofer in trunk question

Has anybody here found a way to get bass from the trunk to the cabin without cutting too much?

I've been helping some friends recently with their IASCA efforts (I build my own amplifiers and enclosures and sell them as a sideline and to make spare $)

Just for the hell of it I upgraded the subwoofer in the trunk of my car, it made very little difference as the E34 trunk is so well insulated from the cabin.

I then tried a technique I have used before with E36 cars, I took the brute force approach with two 15" subs, a cleverly designed enclosure and too many watts to mention...

Here is where my problem starts SPL in the trunk is about 155Db, and in the cabin - 118Db

As of now I have sucessfully managed to do is totally de-laminate the trunk skin from the frame of the trunk lid, the SPL has basically blown the trunk lid apart, have spent the whole day fixing the skin back onto the frame.

This whole effort was to use my E34 as a marketing effort for the stuff I build, and not to annoy old ladys and neigbours with boom, boom, boom in the middle of the night, at age 42 I'm past that anyway.

Anybody have any idea if the rear parcel shelf can be cut safely and how much, as I do not want to compromise the integrity and strength of the car. The rear seat does not fold down and there is no ski hatch, but I desparately need to find a way to get the bass through.
