Hi, I have the same sound comming from my 01 dual Vanous. Dealer told me that the noise is typical and it probably will not get any louder. Although me like you am very embarassed by the noise. People think the engine is bad. Interested if you fixed the noise or what have you done to diag the issue. Is it the tensioner as further notes indicate? Can it be replaced DIY?
