Subject: Residential driveway - concrete curbing

Well, this is almost garage related.. it’s driveway related.

Our driveway was poured about 5 feet closer to the house than we expected due to a drainage easement. This means the turn around space at the end is limited, so visitors often back all the way in or out. When it’s dark, or for those with less backing ability, people seem to often drive into our grass.

Compounding the problem is the slope of the driveway, which causes alot of rain runoff into the grass, making it very soft in the non-summer months. Car tires do quite a bit of damage on the mushy grass. While you’re at it, why not take out a sprinkler head too?!? I have had to replace each of them on that side...

This has been a frustration for us for a few years. Especially since when this happens, we are often months away from drier weather and the muddy damaged lawn looks bad for quite some time.

Solution? A new catch basin and drain at the low spot, and 97 feet of exposed aggregate concrete curbing! Heck, we did 72 feet on the other side!

Before

They mix the concrete on location

Then they load it into a machine and extrude it.
There is rebar going in the middle of it for strength.

After:

Now, just don't let me be the guy who curbs his wheels... on his own curb!
