Subject: Been there done that - It sucks, but don't be too hard on yourself...

I've hit TWO cars backing up over the years. Both times in a big hurry, and both times reving it up and dumping the clutch. Both the cars I hit had MAJOR damage. I caved in the entire side of a Civic with the full size Chevy truck I was driving at the time. I was new on the job, and the car belonged to a fellow employee. The passenger window was lying in pieces on the passengers lap (also a fellow employee). I had looked in my mirrors and didn't see anything, but the car was so small, it was invisible.

The Other car I hit was actually a Ford Ranger truck. Again, late, and only looked one way. Why would I look the OTHER way, no one EVER came from THAT way. The truck was less than a year old, and I creamed the front end. The guy was really pissed, he had just gotten it back from the body shop because some OTHER idiot had wrecked the front end before me.

NOW, I am Mr. cautious when backing up anywhere. I go really slow, and look a million times. (paranoia).
