New to forum. I've got a 2002 745i E65 with 62K just off warranty. Mine had similar trammission issues described in Dec 2006 the dealer quickly diagnosed some error codes and BMW authorized very quiclky and without any hassle a new tranny. Total cost was over $7K so my advise is to press your dealer to check for these error codes (sorry I don't know what they are) but the service guys were all over it so I would be willing to bet BMW is well aware of these issues as well.
