Just wondering if anyone might know something about this...

I noticed recently that BMW started selling valve stem caps made out of ABS instead of metal. For example the metal BMW Roundel caps were P/N 36 11 0 009 840 and now the ABS BMW Roundel caps are 36 11 0 421 544. I'm curious as to why, any ideas?

More interestingly however is this page I came across in the latest BMW Accessories catalog for pre-owned vehicles which specifically states that the valve stem caps are "Not for vehicles with direct tire pressure monitoring system." Given that all new E90's and all E92's come with such tire pressure monitoring systems does that mean we can't / shouldn't install any other valve stem caps other then the goofy ones that come pre-installed that look like a grey mushroom? Anyone know for certain what is going on?
