Subject: Building nav loom from scratch - pinout confusion

Hello!

This would be my first post to bimmerboard.

I am in the process of retrofitting a standard BMW nav system (e46 4:3 monitor, Mk3 GPS and BM24 radio) to my Rover 75. And to keep the challenge high and costs low ( we don't count work hours here don't we) I thought I'd try to build my own wiring for the system.

I sourced some connectors from a donor e46 (they were cut off the existing loom as the breaker definitely did count work hours) and I am now sitting here with a bunch of connectors. I have googled up some excellent wiring and connector pinout diagrams for the project but there is already some confusion that I need to clear up concerning the blue connector that connects to the nav computer:

The only connector the breaker sent me (they are car breakers not ICE experts) that fits the blue connector on the Mk3 doesn't exactly match the pinout I googled. I suspect that that is because that the plug in question rather is meant to be plugged in the video module than into the nav computer. I do NOT have a video module.

The connector I have has RGB ground shield on pins 14,15 and 16 and the RGB signal leads are at 4, 8 and 13. This is where the confusion starts: The first pinout I googled states that the RGB signal pins at the nav comp end should be 5, 6 an 7 (on the other row directly opposed to their respective ground leads. The I found another PDF that indicates that if you do not have a video module, the connector with signal leads at 4,8,13 shoud be plugged in to the nav comp directly instead of going to the video module.

This is where I found the pinouts:

What gives?

I do actually have more excuses to hang around at the bimmerboards: My other car is a beuatiful 1990 325ic. :)

Best regards,

/Erik
