I have a 2004 730, and I too get small wafts of steam that sometimes comes up through the rad grill. At first I thought it was a hole in the rad, but after speaking to a longtime BMW owner, he said all his cars have done exactly the same thing. I checked my rad levels over a period of time with no drop in level. I cannot place where it comes from, and I had not thought of the heated washers, I put it down to moisture from the A/C or road, evaporating on a hot engine part, and with no easy exit from the engine bay except through the grill. I have not worried about it for 4 months now, with no apparent problems.
