Subject: The car probably isn't worth a lot to anyone else, so I'd suggest

keeping it and enjoying it. The clutch is a standard setup -- any competent mechanic should be able to service it. I replaced the clutch on my father's '77 320i back when I was in college.

There's not much to go wrong on that car, so I beg to differ in terms of maintenance cost.

Power windows weren't an option on the E21 series. However, some companies do sell power-window motor kits (see www.bavauto.com and www.jcwhitney.com). Some car-stereo and truck performance stores may carry and/or install such kits, too. Look for places that do window tinting.

Most likely, someone who uses BMW's for "rally cars" will destroy the car, racing it and chopping up the interior for special seatbelts, roll cages, etc. Personally, I would hate to see that happen.

So you're just the 3rd owner of the car? That's unusual for a 22-year-old vehicle. I'm glad to hear that the previous owner babied it. That's the kind of car you want. It sounds like reasonable mileage for a 22-year-old car, too. Actually, it sounds like a little less than average.

Regarding tires, get a good all-weather set of Michelins. Check out www.tirerack.com to select the tires and get the best prices, then go to a local NTB, Sam's Club or other tire center and ask them to match the price.

May I ask what you paid for the car? If you decide to sell it, I might be interested. I'm in Kentucky, though, so I'd have to have it shipped.
