Photoblocker spray will work if the local government uses analog cameras. It will not work if the local government uses digital cameras.

In the DC metro area, the District uses analog cameras. Spray will be effective for these devices. Howard County, Maryland uses digital cameras for red light cameras. Spray won't help you.

As far as home tests go, these won't tell you if the spray works. Automated enforcement cameras have very, very bright flashes, much brighter than a conventional camera, in order to capture a clear, well illuminated photo of a car that may be moving at a good rate of speed. That intense flash will be result in glare with the spray.

Finally, I would not recommend plate covers. If a police officer is behind you, they are very noticeable. I one time had the unpleasant experience of receiving a ticket while waiting to pick my wife up at the airport -- the trooper noticed the front cover from some distance.

Now I just stick with the spray. ;-)

The one disclaimer I would note: I am interested in these products because in the District of Columbia, speed cameras are used purely as revenue raising devices. I have never had an issue with red light cameras, and to me at least, red light cameras are much less of an issue. Speeding cameras used to pick motorists pockets are a different issue.
