the V12 is not the end-all, be-all most people think it is. The V12 had been in production for several years when the V8 came out and I think that it was a shock to BMW that the V8 turned out so powerful. Some arguments have been made that BMW tires to keep people from comparing the two but it appears that a 1993 740i can "beat" a 1993 750. After that BMW changed the gearing so that it wouldn't be so olbvious.
