Thanks, but I never changed the radio unit itself. I forget which one it is but original to a 2000 E38 750 with DSP. It has the thick gray wire which is the antenna, and the thinner wire which I used to think was the antenna. I know there are two amplifiers. One in each C pillar. That's even before I installed the TV module and added the little amps into each C pillar.
What I have done for now is simply unscrew the gray antenna lead from the main diversity amp on the drivers side and attached a regular mast antenna and it's laying down on the back deck. Seems to be much better reception so that would indicate the amp(s) are shot.
