Subject: The big silver box is the TV module; this is a mystery

You have connected two different nav computers (plus your TV module) in a couple different configurations. Every connection yielded the same result; so that would point to the screen or the wiring.

I do not know of any other module, or even an intermediate plug, that is between the blue TV module plug and the display. I have never heard of a "surge protector." As far as I know, the wiring is direct from front to back at that TV module plug.

Since your radio works and the nav powers up, your fuses are probably good. Maybe the problem is the wiring at the display. I would get out a multimeter and verify that the display is getting power and ground where it should. Maybe one of the wires broke or came loose.
