Subject: e38 poor reception

I've searched and found a few ideas. One being that one of the diversity amps has gone bad. But there is one in each C pillar so which one? How do you test them? I have a TV tuner with the correct oem antenna leads and amps also but reception was bad before the install so that didn't cause it. I wanted to try plugging in a good 'ol mast antenna directly to the radio to see if the reception was better. I think I have a bm43 (2000 e38 with dsp/nav, build date 4/99)
There is only one input that looks like an antenna lead in. But when I unplug it I don't lose any stations. And when I plug in a mast antenna reception is no better.
Ideas or thoughts?
