Subject: Random engine stalling

I have a puzzle for you all about my '89 525iA...

My engine randomly stalls while driving. The loss of power is only for about a half second to a full second at most but occurs randomly while driving. It seems to occur mostly though when the AC is on. I think it somehow relates to powering of the compressor clutch causes the engine to randomly cut out. Also this problem occurs mostly in colder weather. In summertime it only occurs a few times during my 30 minute commute but in winter it occurs dozens of times during the same drive. Also it does it most when I first start driving and occurs less often by the end of my commute. Anyone have any suggestions what to check?
