Subject: 1989 525 Idle Problems

Hello! I have a 1989 BMW 525i Automatic that has started getting code 1222, which I understand is the oxygen sensor reporting lean or rich conditions. The car also does not idle to well, cold or hot.

I have done the following so far -

- Changed all hoses from Brake booster to throttle body, most were hard as a rock.
- JB Welded the nipples on the trottle body back into place, two were very loose.
- replaced the intake boot
- Pulled the intake and replaced the oil drain / vent tube O-Rings
- replaced intake gaskets
- pulled valve cover and did a valve adjustment
- pulled battery out for > 30 minutes

I can spray carb cleaner all around the engine compartment and not find anything that affects the idle. Now I do have a slight exhaust leak ether at the cylider head, or where the pipe from the head bolts to the down pipe before the oxygen sensor. Could this cause rough idle and code 1222?

Thanks!

Carl
