My comparison is based on somewhat limited information, admittedly. I have traveled in Canada on business, and vacation. The reason for the "high tax" comment is that when I compared taxes on income with my Canadian coworkers, I was appalled that they were only keeping 25% of their annual bonus. Not much of an incentive to work hard. So really it is a comparison of income taxes for people in my tax bracket.

The reason for the "socialism" comment is nationalized health care. In the U.S., there are plenty of poor hypochondriacs who would love nothing more than to waste someone else's time and money on their imaginary ailments. It's too bad for people who are really suffering, but they seem to find their way to get health care through charitable organizations and the state and county safety nets. Another thing is that in the U.S., certain politicians want public health care for "all", which is code for "illegal immigrants", which as a citizen and taxpayer I cannot abide.

Maybe Canada has a way to prevent this sort of abuse, at least it hasn't bankrupted their country yet.

Hopefully this does not offend anyone, American, Canadian or otherwise. You are all great people.
