Subject: Re: Stubborn Select button with BM53 radio in E39 M5

On another board (I forget which one), someone indicated the old board monitor works fine with their upgrades, but I didn't confirm they were using the latest radio with the older board monitor.

Board monitor information from Navcoder:
BMBT On-board monitor:
Part number 8 375 943, version HW 51, SW 50, made by Philips on 02/98 (January 1998)
Diagnostic index 04, Bus index 05, Encoding index 00
(do you still want a picture?)

Country coding was for Europe (efforts to code it to Canada were unsuccessful)

Here are some lines from a Navcoder log where I was trying to get into the radio service mode (I removed gps and telephone status messages). I don't know what sort of response I should be expecting. Note: The select button is used to access the radio service menu, so I can't get there :(.

2007-11-25 8:00:11 PM: BMBT --> RAD : BM button: SELECT pressed
2007-11-25 8:00:11 PM: RAD --> CDCD: CD status request
2007-11-25 8:00:11 PM: RAD --> CDC : CD status request
2007-11-25 8:00:11 PM: BMBT --> RAD : BM button: SELECT long
2007-11-25 8:00:16 PM: DSP --> LOC : Device status ready
2007-11-25 8:00:19 PM: BMBT --> RAD : Device status request
2007-11-25 8:00:19 PM: RAD --> GLO : Device status ready
2007-11-25 8:00:29 PM: BMBT --> RAD : Device status request
2007-11-25 8:00:29 PM: RAD --> GLO : Device status ready
2007-11-25 8:00:30 PM: BMBT --> RAD : BM button: SELECT released

I'd like to keep my current monitor because of the wood trim. I'd get a new one if that was necessary to make this work, but I want to make really sure first that it will fix the problem.

Can anyone else out there confirm the BM53 radio works with the older 4:3 board monitor?

Thanks for your help.
Trent.
