Subject: Stubborn Select button with BM53 radio in E39 M5

I'm still struggling with getting my select button to work after upgrading my NAV/Radio/CD nearly two months ago (I retained the the original 4:3 display). I've tried all the things that others with this problem have enjoyed success with, including:
- downgrade/upgrade the OS. Tried versions 28, 27, 24, and 21.
- disconnect/reconnect the battery
- pull the instrument cluster fuses.
- recode the NAV with Navcoder
- press select button or RDS button on startup to get into the service menu.

I tried swapping old parts back in one-at-a-time. Select button works with the old radio and new NAV, but doesn't work with the new radio and old NAV. Navcoder also reports Select button press events, so I know the button itself isn't broken.

I think all this points to some kind of problem with the radio. It reports part number 6 988 275, version HW 04, SW 48. I understand there is also a version of this radio with part number ending in 276 (perhaps that's the BM54 version?)

Does anyone have other suggestions for getting the system to respond to the Select button push? Alternatively, are there any diagnostic codes I can send with Navcoder that would allow me to determine with certainty if the radio is faulty.

Thanks,
Trent.
