Subject: I mainly shoot targets. (My rambling thoughts)

I also like the security of knowing that if someone breaks into my home, it will at least be a fair fight. If the law-abiding citizen can't have firearms, then the criminal knows that they have the edge. It like legislating that the ordinary citizen must bring a knife to a gun fight.

I believe that a law should be passed REQUIRING gun ownership. This would remove the mystique from firearms and they would be seen as what they are, a tool. Also, criminals would think twice about breaking in. If the home owner isn't armed, the neighbor probably is...

You ask do we (Americans, I assume) sit and polish and admire our guns. All of the people I know that own guns view them as a tool. My guns haven't been out in the past year except to practice shooting or to investigate noises and such on my property. I don't have anything against hunting. I just find it easier to go to the grocery store and pick up a pound of meat. That and I'm not fond of wondering around in the woods...

I'm sure that the rest of the world views us Americans as psycho gun nuts. But this country was founded on the belief that people have the freedom to do what they want, as they want. In order to defend that freedom, we must have the right tool for the job.
