found something weird....i decided to take a look at the DME itself. i read that the older E36's had an issue with water getting into the DME compartment do to a small drain system. when ever loads of water go down the windshield the drain tubes are to small to handle the mass of flow and it backs up till it overflows into the DME compartment. i know i must have alot of leaves and debri in the also so i think that since this problem happened durin a week of major rains that it might be the problem. the cars been sitting in the sun for 2 months so when i opened the compartment everything was dry. i can see in the dirt/dust the signs of water pooling and dirty water spots on the DME itself. i'm still going to replace the cam sen. first before getting another DME. another find...i noticed the DME showed signs of being opened. when i purchased the car i was told it had a chip in it. when i opened the DME, sure enuf there's a chip in it. now this is weird because i get a top RPM of around 6500 and i top speed cut out at 135mph. as far as i've learned thats pretty much the factory limits. the chip says it's a Dinan but i'm afriad it might be an ebay fake. but if it is it was installed over 3 years ago. can there be a possability that the chip is bad?? the car always ran real rich and had some strange bugs about it and it will only run on 87 oct. gasoline. if i put higher grade gas it has a BAD stager at 2500-3000rpm. i love my car and would love for it to finally run at it's top performance.....well, just driveable would make me happy right now!! i'm going to call dinan and find out more info on the chip and if it could be the/one of my problems.
