There is no dipstick. BMW say the transmission is "sealed" and uses a "lifetime fluid. Basically what they are doing is trying to prevent in appropriate maintenance that usually does more harm than good - including the use of fluids other than what was designed for that specific transmission.

Checking the level if rather complex and best left to a pro. The car has to be raised high enough to allow you to access the drain and fill holes on the side of the unit - while the engine is running and the headlights are on. The car must also be "perfectly level" and the internal temp of the transmission must be between 30 and 50 degrees C.
Then you open the fill hole and add some fluid (same type as specified on the sticker) until it starts to run out.

Then, with the engine still running you have someone operate the transmission through all the gears and repeat the above - all the while the transmission temp must not be above 50c or the level will not be correct.
