Subject: Trans Failsafe Prog & Check engine

I got stuck in a traffic jam for about an hour of creeping along. I put it into neutral while waiting to get moving so it went from N to D quite a few times. Once I got through the jam and started moving again, I drove maybe about a mile and the car completely lost drive. Basically, it was in drive but like it was in neutral. I tried to put it back in neutral and back to drive again, but everytime it would engage for only about a second and felt like it went back to neutral again. That's when the Trans Failsafe Prog warning came on and the Check Engine light came on. Nothing could get the car driving again. The engine runs fine, just no motion. I shut it off and started again and it went into drive this time and I pulled it off the road. Didn't know what to do so I shut off the car for about 15 minutes. I also disconnected the battery for a couple of minutes too in case there was some electrical gremlin it could reset. Once I got everything connected, the car started up fine, the Trans Failsafe warning was gone but the check engine light stayed on. I was able to take it home, but the first 50 feet or so I got a squealing, metal grating sound, but stopped almost right away. Right now, the car drives fine and transmission shifts like normal. Anyone have any idea?

Thanks.
