As a part of TQM, audits and other corporate initiatives manufacturers must have redundant sources of suppliers. But, despite these plans, sh** happens, could be bad batch, issues with raw materials or string of defects.

Had this happen once with steering gear for Z cars, generally this means you are going to plan b supplier, but waiting for them to ramp up and dealing with shipping & stocking delays (warehouse guys love you when this happens).

It would be rare for all parts to be affected, since there's probably hundreds of suppliers (different ones for body, electrical, interior, mechanical, brakes, lights, etc).

If this is true some people at BMWNA are feeling like FEMA right now and working some long hours to get this fixed.
