relax/loosen up and discharge the debris they have scooped up. Frankly, I'm not sure at what temp that occurs, but to err on the side of caution and effectiveness I use water from the cold-side of the tap. So cold is a relative term here. Perhaps the better way to phrase it is to "use room or hose temperature water" in a good solution of quality car wash soap. Certainly do not use hot water.

MF towels used in this way will remove a lot of surface contaminants very effectively without scratching the paint/clearcoat in my experience.
