The X5 used a different version of the M62. It used an M62B46 and not the TU. It's a 4.6 L intead of the 4.4 M62TUB44. The M5s of those days used the S62B50. It was a 4.9 liter with a double VANOS system. Hope this helps you. Basicaly if it came from a 540i or 740 you're golden.
