Subject: 01 540i - remote keys quit working

And I cannot initialize them either. The dealer tried too but no joy.

I can still lock and unlock the car with the key in the door lock. The anti-theft system also arms itself. I hear the beep and the LED starts blinking. Have checked all fuses in the glove compartment and trunk. They all test good.

This happened when I stopped for dinner a few days ago. Was able to lock the car but was not able to unlock it remotely. All during dinner the key was in my front pocket and I don't think it got accidently initialized. Came home and tried the other key and it didn't work either.

After thinking long and hard about what was I doing that night that was different than other times and the only thing I can think of was that I had my rear defogger turned on.

Entertaining a broken antenna connection or a bad FZV module. This is the only picture I could find:

I'm assuming the module is very close to the rear windshield. Anyone knows exactly where?

I guess its time to buy the Bentley.

Thanks,

Shahid.
