The towers weren't just buildings in NYC, they were symbols of American power and pride, and they were monuments to the magnificently talented men and women who created them. Hence, they were giant symbolic targets for those dispicable bastards who want to kill us all.

If you've seen out-of-towners visiting the site and becoming emotional, instead of mocking them, consider what it would mean if the rest of the country didn't give a damn what happened in NYC.
