Subject: If the connections at the Speed and ref sensors are good...

and tight, consider refreshing ALL the ground and connection points, paying particular attention to the connector at the AFM and the Motronic water temp sender on the thermostat housing. While you are around thetemp sensor, look for "non-factory" wiring. This may indicate yo may have the infamous "resister" mod. If so, look for a resistor soldered into the circuit. These are also known to fail. In this process, a good electrical contact cleaner is essential.

Besure to clean the contacts down at the Motronic (btw.. I'm guessing it is an 86 L7 not a 66 L7...)

Next, if it still continues, I'd suggest opening the cover of the Motronic and look for "hot" spots evidenced by carmel colored spots on the PC board(s).

These Motronics are notorious for hot spots. If you find some carmel colored spots, I'd suggest sending it to Jarmo for repair. The alternative is a swap out with a Programma reconditioned unit.

Bottom line, worst case... the symptoms you describe are of a failing "final output" stage in the ignition system. At some point it will eithor not run, or leave you stranded.... I'm not trying to scare you, just being a realist... BTDT ... js

Regards

John Stein
