It looks like you have aftermarket sport seats in that car. Maybe a Recaro of some sort. With the E24 being a high market car, maybe the owner that changed? the seats had the rear sear recovered in the same cloth. This is very possible.

Maybe you can look at the front seats to see if they are labeled as recaro or scheel or some other name. Doesn't look like BMW, but it is a Euro car so BMW may have fitted something special for the buyer. It happens.
