I was told long ago by some race mechanics friends that the way to adjust with engine running. They also suggested doing intakes first, then exhaust valves.

Of course, that worked nicely on a Mustang but not the 635. So I went back to bumping the engine as needed and doing a final check with the neigne running. Yez, oh yez, you will need old towels or something to soak up the oil since you do all this before putting the valve cover back on.

I always tried each clearance with feeler gauges set jsut slightly tighter than spec (about an extra .001" will do it). If that couldn't slip in, I tried the gaugaes at spec thickness and when that would slip in with the engine running, I was done.
