The best M30 engine is 1987-1989 635( perfect fit harness), 1989-1972 535/735 (shorter harness, may not fit in original location)- these are called M30B34. They're well tuned with lots of flexibility for chips/ modificiations.

... My frind has a 1978 633i... can he put the 635 2nd generation engine in it without changing the wire harness ? Or must he change the entire wire harness?

As for S38 I think US get the 256hp M motor while S88 Euro M motor has 286 hp- totally different engine. A well tuned S88 motor with chip can produce over 300 hp.

...Is the e34 M5 engine fit for e24 engine mouts ? Or is this a major modification ?

Standard 5 spd with tall ratio is Getrag 265, the Getrag 280 (standard on M) is more heavy duty but rarer. LSD comes in 2.91 up to 3.91 but the lower ratio gives more fuel economy while losing low end acceleration

... I do not care much for low end acceleration... I dont like burning rubber... Question about gearbox and LSD interchange with other bmw cars - Is there any page on the internet where there is data on gearbox and LSD interchange between BMW models ? I would like to know - example : what kind of gearbox and LSD uses e34 535i or e32 735i ... and what is the options for switching bmw parts...

And another thing...as I understand, the e24 LSD is either 25% or 40%... do you know what are the names of these LSDs ? And on which cars are they also found ? As I said... I can get many parts through German e-bay...

Thanks again for helping me !

Best regards, J
