Subject: I'm going to disagree (respectfully) with the notion of design being GM's

financial issue. Don't get me wrong, I think most GM cars have been butt fugly for decades. But apparently, most car buyers in the US (therefore, most car buyers) have not agreed with us. Only in the last couple years have they been unseated from #1 in sales in the US. I think they are still #2. Their SALES issue is their reluctance to lay off the large SUV segment. That is recent because of gas prices, not people becoming aesthetically tasteful. That is temporary, as my local gas station is now down to $2.07 per gallon.

GM's financial problems come from their labor obligations. They continue to pay retired workers a substantial amount of their last (highest) salary from retirement until they die, which can be a longer period of time than from hire date to retirement. They also are obligated to pay a large number of employees a full salary to do NOTHING! They clock in, go to a room & watch TV, play cards & look at the clock until it is time to go home! Then there is the health care plan & other benefits that the Unions have been able to extort from GM.
