Subject: Heater blower change, ready for winter!!

John came up this weekend so I knew there was a bunch of BMW work to do. He changed his heater blower (not the A/C blower). An easy repair:

Obtain a new heater blower
Open hood
Remove all the wire ties on the upper firewall section that needs to be removed to access the blower
Remove the six 7mm hex head screws holding the firewall panel in place
Pull off the hood weather seal, at least across the top of the firewall
Remove the panel
Remove fan shrouds and intake screens
Unclip the motor
Unplug the blower motor
Remove the blower
Installation is reverse of removal

Now with John there were many cleaning, detailing and leaf removal steps not mentioned so it always takes longer with his car.

If the car has the fuel cooler (fuel lines going to the a/c lines on the right side of the car) you will need to hold the firewall panel out of the way, I used bungee cords, as the fuel lines going into and out of the firewall to access the other side of the engine cause the firewall to want to close up the work area.

Here is the blower showing the clamp holding the motor. The silver bar is the strut brace that did not have to be removed to do this repair.
