Subject: Opinion: GM still doesn't get it; scuttles alliance talks with Renault, Nissan

Reports that GM scuttled a potential alliance with Renault and Nissan after being rebuffed for a cash settlement as an incentive to join Renault and Nissan. GM claimed they wanted a cash incentive from Renault-Nissan because GM negotiators thought that Renault and Nissan would benefit more from the alliance than GM would, and that the alliance would preclude GM from allying itself with other companies.

As a result, GM's stock price FELL while Nissan's JUMPED! Hello? Since when is GM in a position to dictate a BRIBE from Renault-Nissan to pull its fat, sinking hide out of the hole? GM lost ten billion dollars last year (Renault and Nissan are dealing with falling sales but have growing market share at the expense of GM), and had to bribe thousands of its autoworkers to leave the company early. Does this sound like a company that can afford to turn away helping hands by requesting that they offer GM money to hook up with them?

I'm starting to wonder if GM should start drug testing their executives. They're clearly not dealing with reality. Seems to me that the GM executives would rather go down with the ship than learn something from companies who are obviously doing something right in the marketplace by making money.

Yes, it's a 1988 750il. Don't make me open this to prove it...Death to censorship! Give me liberty or... give me an unlimited tab at the BMW parts counter! Last 7 digits of VIN number are 2765157'
