Subject: pioneer or alpine

there were two stock later E30 radios; a pioneer and an alpine (the alpine has the 'infrared' finger slider thing to adjust the balance, bass, treble etc.

If you have an alpine unit, you need the matched BMW changer, there was no aftermarket option or cable. I think there are two different changers for the alpine (6 and 10? disc).

The pioneer unit will accept the pioneer (eg, not BMW) changer from that period... or the BMW changer.

having said that, both changers are going to be old, and expensive to service (lotta moving parts etc.) ...i would consider the following:

if you want stock looks, get an E36/early z3 CD43 or C43 headunit, and a matching changer OR one of the many ipod connector cables that are availble.
